MUD Interview
Name:Clayton/Claytonator
Age: 22
Where are you based? Barry/Cardiff/Wales
How did you get into Make-up?
Such an embarrassing story that I hate telling, but for MUD I will reveal, basically in my youth lets just say I was an 'individual' and an 'experimental' kinda guy! One experiment was the goth scene, so I quickly found out what black eyeliner was about, I then started to experiment with more colour and suddenly I had my own makeup bag and there wouldnt go a weekend where I wouldnt get dolled up! So makeup has always been a huge passion of mine, I remember going up to the MAC counter and flicking through Vogue and looking at these amazing visuals and finding it all so inspiring. I started to take things serious when i left school and had so much makeup that I needed to do something with it. I was fortunate to meet a top Welsh Make-up artist, Julie-Fox, who kindly took me to a lot of her jobs where i learnt loads and gained some valuable, professional experience.
How would you describe the style of your work?
Romantically dark, moody, edgy but I'd like to think it was beautiful and playful at the same time.
What are you up to at the moment?
I am currently working part-time for NARS at John Lewis (come say hi!). The rest of the time I am Freelancing, I have worked on a few exciting projects, i was the make-up artist for Julia Kasper's recent collection 'The Curious Riot'. I also did a shoot with Shelley Jones which was featured on The Italian Vogue website. I literally just wrapped Project DMT, which was shot in the bank vaults down the bay, this project was based on make-up and styling ideas I've had for so long and was also a collabartion with my best friend and talented fellow make-up artist Charlotte Savoury. I have also been doing some TV stints for various shows after I presented a welsh tv programme Salon.
Shoot More, Laugh More!
Who's your favourite Make-up artist/fashion designer?
There are so many to name a few Alex Box, Pat McGrath, Kabuki, my dear friends Hila Karmand and Charlotte Garbiella Savoury. Designers hmmmmm Mcqueen and Westwood!
What's your favourite city?
Cardiff of course!
What's your favourite song/artist at the moment?
I am in love with Gaga's new album but I cant stop listening to anything by Nicki Minaj, I think she's so talented. Everytime I hear a song I'm like woah she killed it!
What inspires you?
Peoples faces and my friends and family inspire me.
